Dr Tina Daniel specialises in the teaching of early literacy. She has taught first and second language and literacy in a range of complex environments at primary, secondary and tertiary levels in rural and urban settings in the United States and Australia.
Recipient of a three-year Australian Research Council Scholarship, Dr Daniel¡¯s doctoral research investigated teacher perspectives of their practice of early reading instruction and the social-discursive, material-economic, and socio-political factors that enable and constrain it. She has presented her work at conferences both in Australia and overseas and contributed to research for the trauma-informed teaching stream at Deakin University and La Trobe University¡¯s Science of Language and Reading (SOLAR) Lab. She also curates the Facebook group, Reading Teachers Australia for over 9,300 teachers and principals.
Dr Daniel¡¯s current research interests include the practice and pedagogy of early reading instruction; psychological, linguistic, and social correlates of literacy acquisition of young readers with and without learning difficulties; and environmental and systemic impacts on learning to read in different orthographies.
