ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø

ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø has a proud history of honouring and recognising members of the wider community whose work aligns with the Mission of the University and who have also had a significant positive impact on the University, the nation and/or the international community. Nominees must also satisfy at least one of the following:

• be a person who has provided outstanding support to, or enhanced, the standing of the University or the Catholic Church; and/or
• be a person of academic eminence; and/or
• be a person demonstrating distinguished creative achievement; and/or
• be a person who has provided an outstanding contribution beyond the expectations of the person’s particular field of endeavour which has influenced the thinking or general wellbeing of the wider community.

In accordance with regulations established by its Senate, the University is empowered to award an honorary degree of Doctor of the University [DUniv (HonorisCausa)] and an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws [DLawsUniv (HonorisCausa)]. The University Senate, on the recommendation of its Honorary Awards Committee, approves the awarding of honorary degrees to any person, whether or not that person is a University graduate.

Nominations for honorary awards may be made by members of Corporation, Chapter, Senate, ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø’s professoriate and ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø Alumni. Except in the case of ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø Alumni nominees, nominations must be seconded by a member of Corporation or Senate. For Alumni nominees, the signatures of two ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø Alumni are required.

Nominations are strictly confidential. Any person under consideration for an award must not be contacted, directly or indirectly, either before or after a nomination has been submitted.

Completed nomination forms need to be submitted electronically to the Governance Directorate via Honorary.Degrees@acu.edu.au. The current round of nominations closes on 10 August 2025.
